Cog Hill Golf and Country Club is Hiring a GROUNDS MAINTENANCE Near Lemont, IL

Position Summary: Under the supervision of the Director of Grounds Operations, Grounds Maintenances perform routine maintenance tasks associated with maintaining the property and courses.

Grounds Maintenances participate in a diverse range of activities, including, but not limited to landscaping and maintaining grounds using hand or power tools or equipment. Grounds Maintenances may be trained to use various types of equipment depending on their competence level as determined by a supervisor. They will be involved in course preparation, mowing, renovations, water management, equipment operation, and all other tasks associated with maintaining the property, including manual labor.

Grounds Maintenances have three classifications, (I-III). The levels are based on experience, yearly performance, and ability. Opportunities to advance within these levels are determined by the Director of Grounds Operations and/or Course Superintendents.

The levels are defined as follows:

Grounds Maintenance I:

Duties/Responsibilities & Requirements:

  • Ability to safely mow and maintain all areas of facility including but not limited to, greens, bunkers, fairways, tees, rough and clubhouse areas. (Some tasks will require manual labor.)
  • Ability to safely operate hand and power tools
  • Follows detailed instructions for routine groundskeeping duties
  • Waters all plants, flowers and grass on property by hand, sprinkler or other methods, as needed.
  • Pulls weeds by hand or uses weed wackers
  • Planting, fertilizing and other gardening jobs
  • Maintains and operates drip watering systems
  • Responsible for cleaning and maintenance of all outside areas near club house, pro shop, range, etc. including grounds keeping and garbage maintenance
  • Keeps all related equipment clean, maintained, and store properly
  • Keeps equipment storage room neat, clean and organized
  • Completes inventory of supplies and informs manager when additional supplies are needed
  • Keeps the entire property free of litter, cigarette butts and other trash
  • Ability to follow oral and written directions and work in cooperation with fellow employees
  • Performs any other tasks related to course or equipment maintenance as assigned by supervisor

Grounds Maintenance II:

Duties/Responsibilities & Requirements:

  • Grounds Maintenance II will be proficient in entry level activities noted under Grounds Maintenance I.
  • Has basic knowledge of game of golf
  • Will have been trained in more advanced golf maintenance practices such as:
    • Watering
    • Course set-up
    • Pesticide and fertilizer applications
    • Equipment operation
    • Construction projects
    • Tree trimming and removal
    • Aerification
  • Is safety conscious
  • Possesses problem solving skills
  • Performs any other tasks related to course or equipment maintenance as assigned by supervisor

Knowledge / Skills

  • Demonstrated mechanical and electrical knowledge and repair abilities
  • Ability to manage multiple complicated priorities/ tasks
  • Dedication to improving multi-tasking skills, personal skills and facility improvement
  • Exhibit strong judgment and decision making skills.
  • Ability to interface with all types of mechanical and construction contractors

Physical Demand: Must be able to perform physical activities, such as, but not limited to, lifting heavy items (up to 50 lbs., unassisted), bending, standing, climbing or walking. Frequently required to work under inclement weather conditions. Must be able to work in an environment containing frequent exposure to chemicals utilized in maintaining the property. Must be able to operate a variety of gas-powered equipment and sharpen hand tools safely. At all time works safely and smartly. Must be able to handle heavy machinery that requires strength, agility, quick reflexes and precision.
